Snake

It was believed that Sundaresa Iyer used to pray Snakes – obviously Cobra to the extent that he befriended it. It used to quietly come and rest in the pooja room hissing to his chants! Those days Pooja room had strict entry and had its sanctity. However, the sight of snake had frightened the family members and one day Iyer had to request the snake “Subbaraya…go to your place and I will come and see you; because people are frightened here” and it quietly slithered its way to his molehill..

Bala Gurunadha Swamy

There is a stream of families whose principal deity is Bala Gurunadha Swamy near Andhiyur of Erode in Tamilnadu. It is reverred as Subramanya Swamy too. It is the custom to do Pongal what ALL the families participate - both physicall and financially - for the Pooja and is done with lots of restrictions and rules and regulations.

It is a great task to do at home because of the perfection to be maintained. This is a male domain Pongal cooking. Though elderly women assist. Paddy is manually crushed to rice, winnowed and the rice is cooked in pure milk with jaggery. The measures, ingredient, etc are well stipulated. Doing this at home needs lots of coordination, man power and above all WILL to do that. To the best of my knowledge, only Nevely Guru family had done it twice in the recent decades. First one at Palakkollai their native village and latest at Neyveli. Hats off to them!

Names

A small deviation from the flow.. It is the custom that the children are named after the forefathers. Though in practice, many prefer nick names and call by that name. As far as I know, the following are few.. There may be many more.. I would try to collect them.

Neyveli Guru's son - Sundar (a) Sundaresan (named after Great Grand Father)
Neyveli Sridhar's Son - Krishnaswamy (named after Great Grand Father)
Ramesh Kalyan's son - Ashwath Kalyan (a) Kalyana Sundaram) named after his Grand Father
Puthran Kottai Venkatakrishnan's son Markandeyan (named after his Great Grand Father)

If you know further names and info, please post me.

Shri.P.Sundaresa Iyer

I have heard (word of mouth and pass along information) that Sundaresa Iyer was a tall and bold person. He was so spiritual and straight person. He used to pray 'Ayyanar' as his principal deity. Daily goes to prays Ayyanar - a God usually does not have roofed temple. Always it is at the outer most limit of the village, usually built in gigantic size weilding big sword. It was believed that Iyer used to speak to the God. Iyer used to do pooja in a big premises to the 'Vel' and he always holds Vel and a Lathi with him wherever he goes. After his demise, it was believed to be placed at some temple..which temple? Does anyone know? Is it still there?

The Brothers

Let me start with the two eldest personalities that I know of and that I heard from in my age of consent!

Sri.Penuparthy KRISHNASWAMY IYER (my father's father)
Sri.Penuparthy SUBBARAMA IYER (his brother)

Their life was so intertwined that we can not think about one person in solo. Right from their early childhood to their last days, they remained together, bundled together.

One is Soft and another is Dynamic.
One is patient and another is impatient.
One is sober and another is short-tempered.
One is timid another is Bold.
But both stand together for Love and emotional attachment and for right reasons!
The long lasting sincere LOVE binded them together.

Prelude to the Tree

Thanks for visiting! This blog is preferred to be coloured in Saffron and Yellow. Because many of the souls here had contributed (sacrificied) for the family members and well being and still felt delighted about their deeds and presence for other, as little as it could be though...

As I go to give a gist of my ancestors, I look at them like a rain drop in the air looking upon at the previous rain drops into the cloud! Like a shoot of a plant looking at its roots with a bow! Having lost my dear Dad, Kalyanasundaram. I think of him at this moment…………………………………………………………………………………………….
……………………………………………………………………………………………………..

If am not wrong, I could collect info about 7 generations staring from my sons! The full credit for this effort, if it deserves, goes to my loving Mother Mrs.Nagalakshmi Kalyanasundaram, living with me now! Also to my uncle Mr.P.V.Raghupathy living at Cuddalore now who called me one day and said “Why don’t you collect all the information of our generations.. I will tell whatever I know. You do it”.

Mainly this blessed Penuparthy Tree details in this, branches out through that of sons of the family while mentioning about the daughters also. At this moment, I thank God Almighty Sri Mashapureeswara & Lokambika for the continued blessings on us! There is a poem in Tamil saying “Avan Arulale Avan Thal Vanangi” – means “We prostrate towards His feet for which we need his mercy & blessings”

The available knowledge as at now could stretch out upto Sri.Subbarama Iyer to peep into the shadow of the Penuparthy tree!
